Floods: professionals and corporations, where are you?

Every rainy season the flood comes to Jakarta. Every five years it reaches its climax. Everyone knows about this. Have anyone done anything to prevent floods?

Well, for a start, the Governor doesn’t know what he’s talking about and it’s too late to go shouting about prevention. So what can we do to anticipate this natural disaster? The conventional yet efficient way is to donate foods, water, clothes, etc. which have already been conducted by some. Or if one is a celebrity, one can visit the victims -- as this would amuse and encourage their spirits. But what about the potential diseases lurking around?

Investor Daily today reported that as many as 12,612 people from 206,106 refugees are suffering from Acute Respiratory Infections (ISPA), diarrhea, itches, and joint inflammation. Most of the victims are from West Jakarta (5,740), followed by East Jakarta (1,849), South Jakarta (1,820), Central Jakarta (1,820), and North Jakarta (1,383). So far, the flood has killed 29 people, while 1 person was reported missing and another one in critical condition.

Wow, those are quite a number. Although local government office has stated that all victims have been given free medicinal treatments, I believe the professional and the industry should also provide helping hands.

Well, I know there are hundreds of doctors out there who could provide best treatments and as much as 208 pharmaceutical companies which could easily discharge quality medicines for flood victims.

What do you say?
